Americas Cup-an accessible History

I’m not a big fan of the current Americas Cup. The fallacious correlation between speed and elite competition is only one of the factors undermining its appeal. (But it’s nowhere nearly as bad as the circus that is Sail GP with its hyperbolic, moronic commentary its green washing, its paywalls, & fake nationality rules.) What the Americas Cup does have on its side is a long, fascinating and complex history. So complex in fact that trying to even assume some kind of general understanding can be daunting.

So when I came across this page by Magnus Wheatley on the official Americas Cup website I thought it was worth sharing.

It’s relatable, easily navigated and like all Magnus’ writings, not short of personality.

Flicking back through the years I can’t help thinking the the 12 meters in Freemantle represented the Modern AC at its zenith. And I can’t imagine a regatta LIKE THIS in 40 years time for AC 75’s
